L'histoire de notre Bouddha rieur remonte au Xème siècle après Jésus Christ (soit 15 siècles après Bouddha), en Chine, où il menait une vie tranquille monastique il fut attiré par la bonne chair.
D'un naturel jovial, on le remarqua pour sa grande générosité et son humble bonté.
Au fil des siècles, Budai est incorporé à la tradition bouddhiste, devenant par la même occasion la divinité du bonheur et de l’abondance.
